Airbus lands China Airlines options contract
Taiwan’s China Airlines has signed a contract for the purchase of 14 Airbus A350-900 jets and taken another six on option.
Taiwan’s largest carrier signed a letter of intent for the purchase in December, and has now finalized the contract, Airbus said.
China Airlines intends to begin using the long-haul jets in 2015.
The A350 will primarily be deployed on the airline’s long-haul routes to Europe, Australia and the United States.
No financial details of the contract have been disclosed.
At list prices, the 20 jets would cost about 4.6 billion dollars. However, airlines usually negotiate substantial discounts.
Airbus launched a costly redesign of its A350 wide-bodied plane to help it compete with Boeing’s fast-selling 787 Dreamliner.
